How Bruno went from 25% to 90% closing by selling to identity

Bruno was stuck at 25% using the same scripts everyone uses. Then he learned to sell to identity and pre-handle objections. Now prospects close themselves.

Short answer

How did Bruno go from 25% to 90% closing on sales calls?

I take Bruno's close rate from 25% to 90% with two shifts. First, pre-handle objections in discovery so they never surface at the pitch. Second, sell to identity instead of belief, so the prospect decides if saying yes matches who they are. Catch red flags early and the end of your calls gets easy.

Bruno was closing 25%. Standard high ticket scripts, standard results. Then he hit a dry patch so bad he had 20 calls in a row with zero sales. A few months later he's collecting cash on 90% of his calls and prospects are selling themselves on why they deserve to work with him. Here's what actually changed.

The dry streak that forced him to change

Bruno runs a marketing agency doing five sales a month and a coaching offer that was closing around 25%. That's not bad. That's normal for a closer using the scripts everybody else is using.

Then it fell apart. Over 20 calls with no sales. He couldn't get a single person over the line.

He told me straight up what was happening on those calls:

"So many people were coming up to the call with fear or fear objections, trust objections. I was trying to figure out how do you actually handle these objections."

That's the moment most closers either quit or get serious. Bruno got serious. He started binge watching my YouTube videos, two days straight, and joined the mastermind.

Why standard objection scripts barely work

Here's the problem with most sales training. It teaches you a line to say when the objection shows up. "Use this rebuttal, say that phrase." Bruno called it out himself:

"So many sales trainings are like use this line, use this, do that. And it's like, yeah, that stuff barely works."

The fix isn't a better line. It's not having the objection show up in the first place. That's pre-handling. You plant the answer to the objection earlier in the call, before the prospect even feels the need to raise it.

By the time you get to the pitch, the objection is already dead. The prospect isn't fighting you. They're working with you.

Selling to identity instead of beliefs

The second piece that flipped Bruno's calls was selling to identity instead of selling to belief. Beliefs are surface level. Identity is who someone thinks they are and who they're trying to become.

When you sell to identity, the prospect isn't deciding whether your offer works. They're deciding whether saying yes matches who they are. That's a completely different conversation.

Bruno described the shift in his calls after he started combining identity selling with pre-handling:

"The biggest shocking difference was when you get to the end of the call and you pitch people... they're trying to work with me and make it happen."

He gave two real examples from his calls:

  • A prospect with a money objection said: "I don't have the money right now, but hold on, let me think about it, I want to find a way to make this work, is there anything you can do on your end?"
  • A prospect with fear said: "I got to be honest with you, I am scared shitless to do this, but I know this is something I have to do, so let's go for it."

Both of those are the prospect solving their own objection. Not Bruno. He pointed out exactly why that matters:

"There's no fear there. There's no money objection there. It's like they're trying to figure out how do we solve this obstacle."

That's the whole game. When identity and pre-handling are working, the prospect becomes your partner in closing the deal instead of your opponent.

The one hiccup, husband and wife calls

Nobody levels up in a straight line. Bruno ran into a snag on a call with a husband and a wife together. Partnership calls are their own animal because now you've got two identities and two sets of objections in the room at once.

He sent that call in for feedback. Once he saw how to handle partnership objections specifically, the results flipped fast.

"We've been closing husband and wives at like I want to say a 50% rate."

That's the pattern with this stuff. You don't need to overhaul everything. You find the one leak, patch it, and the number moves immediately.

From 30k a month to an 80k month in two months

Results talk. Before the training, Bruno's coaching offer was grossing around 30k a month. Two months into applying identity selling and pre-handling, he had his first 80,000 dollar month.

"The only limitation was that I literally just did not have time to take on more calls. That's been mindboggling."

More than double his revenue in two months, and the ceiling wasn't his close rate anymore. It was his calendar. That's a good problem to have, and it's why he's now bringing on a part time closer to transition full time, so he can step back from sales completely.

Red flags in discovery, not damage control at the end

I asked Bruno what single thing moved him from 25% to 90%. No hesitation:

"Being able to pick up on red flags throughout discovery and just addressing those immediately."

That's pre-handling in one sentence. You don't wait for the objection to blow up at the pitch. You catch the red flag the second it shows up in discovery and you deal with it right there. By the time you get to the end of the call, there's nothing left to handle. It's smooth sailing.

Skills decay if you stop training

One thing Bruno said that every closer needs to hear. His numbers dipped recently, not because the method stopped working, but because he stopped practicing.

"It's like go through the training once and then... it's like now you're going to be master level closer forever. It's like no. I'm now going to brush up on the training, practice tonality, practice all these things, review my own calls."

Closing isn't something you learned once. It's something you do. You have to keep sharpening tonality, reviewing your own calls, staying on top of it. The moment you coast, the numbers slip. The moment you get back in the reps, they come right back up.

The bottom line

Bruno didn't need a new script. He needed to stop reacting to objections and start preventing them, and to stop selling to belief and start selling to identity. That combination took him from 25% to 90% and from 30k months to 80k months in two months flat. If you're stuck at a close rate that feels stuck, look at your discovery. The red flags are already there. Address them immediately and the end of your calls gets a lot easier.
