How a 19 year old went from negative $2k to $57k a month
A 19 year old closer came to me broke and negative. Five months later he's at 85% close rate and $57k a month. Here's exactly what changed.
Short answer
Why do my sales calls keep dying before I handle objections?
My calls die after problem awareness, what's wrong? Honestly, it's not the objections killing you, it's what happens five minutes before them. You're accepting bumper sticker answers and moving on instead of digging for the real symptom of the problem. Fix that with a funnel approach to connection and structured language, and the close rate takes care of itself.

He came to me negative $2,000. No business. No money. Just a kid who'd been grinding solo for two years watching free content and still couldn't get through a sales call clean. Five months later he's closing 85% of his calls and pulling $57k a month. This is his story, and it's one every stuck closer needs to hear.
He wasn't new, he was stuck
This guy wasn't a beginner. He'd been doing this for two years. He knew the questions. He'd watched a ton of content, broken down calls himself, studied the game hard.
But here's what he told me straight up.
"It was a situation where I know it but I don't, can't really do it."
That's the gap that keeps closers stuck at $7k to $25k a month. You know the theory. You can't execute it live when a real prospect is pushing back. Knowing isn't doing. He had information with no structure to hang it on.
His calls were dying in the same spot every time
He told me his calls would never make it through problem awareness. Every single time. That's where they died.
And it wasn't because he was bad at handling objections. Listen to this.
"In fact, any deal I close working before you was out of my objection handling. I was always good at the objection handling portion, but I would never get to do that because I piss prospects off by random questions."
He was causing his own resistance. He'd ask a question, get a surface level answer, a bumper sticker answer, and just move on instead of digging. Then he'd hit a wall of objections he created himself. His words, not mine.
"I was the one who was just causing resistance. That was my [stuff]."
That's the real lesson here. Most closers blame the objection. The objection isn't the problem. What happened five minutes before the objection is the problem.
Bumper sticker answers kill deals
Before we worked together, he'd ask a question, get a shallow answer, and accept it. Someone says "I need better leads." He'd nod and move to the next question.
That's a bumper sticker answer. It sounds like an answer but it's not specific enough to build pressure or a real problem.
What fixed it was getting brutally specific about the symptom of the problem, not just the problem itself.
"Finding out what's in people's life telling them they need to make a change. That was the biggest thing because it gives you a lot clear direction."
He gave a great example. Someone says they need better quality leads. Okay, what do you mean by that. "People with more money." Okay, what's coming up for you that has you looking for people who have more money. "The people I speak with right now do not have enough funding on calls."
Now you've got a real problem to work with. Not "I need better leads." You've got "I'm wasting my time on broke prospects and it's costing me deals." That's a problem that can actually be sold against.
The funnel approach to connection
The structure that fixed everything for him was treating the opening of the call like a funnel. Broad questions first, then the prospect narrows it down for you.
Three things he's finding in that connection phase now:
- Why are they here
- What are they specifically looking for help with
- Why do they need help with that specific thing
That third question is the one that changed everything for him.
"I never knew you need to find the symptom of the problem. That was so completely new to me."
Once he had that structure, he wasn't guessing what to ask next mid call anymore. He described his old calls as constantly thinking "what am I doing, what am I doing." Now he's got a clear direction to probe into every single time.
Identity and language fixing closed the gap
He mentioned two more things that moved the needle hard. Language fixing and identity.
Small shifts in how you phrase things and the tone you say them in changes whether a prospect feels judged or feels understood. He called it a gem when he first found content on it, saying no one else was teaching that piece.
"It's going from pissing off people to people saying thank you when they swipe their credit card."
That's the difference clean language and the right identity questions make. Same information, same offer, completely different reaction from the prospect.
He also admitted he had a limiting belief about people judging him, tied to his background. That stuff shows up on calls whether you want it to or not. Working through it was part of what unlocked the confidence that shows up in his tone now.
The process is the same no matter what you sell
He sells done for you marketing and sales to coaches, plus coaching and info products on the side. But he pointed out something important.
"I have literally done from mindset coaching to lead generation coaching to therapy offers with the same process and I changed nothing of it. It's such a clear, concise process."
That's the whole point of having a real framework instead of a bag of random tactics. You're not reinventing your approach every time you sell something different. Problem awareness or solution awareness, the structure doesn't change. Only the words the prospect gives you change.
What actually made him change
I asked him what advice he'd give someone sitting broke right now, knowing they need to get better. His answer wasn't tactical. It was honest.
"You really have to realize you're not that good enough and you truly need help. Once you get clear on that and you realize if you don't, what's waiting for you, because there are genuine consequences waiting."
He was a college dropout, taking care of his family, trying to stay financially secure enough to keep his partner. He sat on that for two years before deciding enough was enough. His exact words were that he regretted not finding a mentor two years sooner, not because of ego, but because the results came once he finally committed.
"Why didn't I do this for the last two years. What was I doing."
The bottom line
This kid didn't need more information. He had plenty. He needed structure, specific language, and someone to catch where his calls were actually breaking instead of guessing.
If you're stuck right now at a plateau, ask yourself the same question he had to ask. Are you actually causing your own resistance by accepting bumper sticker answers and moving on. Are you digging for the real symptom of the problem or just the surface level complaint.
Fix that gap and the close rate takes care of itself. 85% close rate and $57k a month in five months isn't luck. It's structure, applied daily, with zero ego about needing help.
